'Smallville' actor discusses Keith Raniere's manipulation strategies in NXIVM

Allison Mack Opens Up About NXIVM Cult Experience

Allison Mack, known for her role in “Smallville,” shared her experiences with NXIVM cult leader Keith Raniere in a recent podcast episode of “Allison After NXIVM.” She reflected on how Raniere persuaded her that a physical relationship was essential for her personal “healing.”

Raniere, who led a self-help organization attracting both billionaires and celebrities, received a 120-year prison sentence in 2020 for multiple crimes, including sex trafficking and forced labor.

In her discussion, Mack recounted a moment when she confided in a NXIVM friend about struggles with her sexuality, prompting Raniere to encourage her to address these issues openly.

Mack recalled saying to Raniere, “I feel ashamed of my body and my sexuality. I don’t know how to get around this.” He responded with a promise to help, but with a peculiar condition: they needed to be physically intimate to proceed. “We can’t help you get through it in theory,” he said, “You have to experience it.”

Looking back, Mack admitted that while the situation felt “weird,” she found comfort believing Raniere’s methods could genuinely assist her. She described Raniere’s approach as “energy work,” where he claimed to be helping her by connecting with her physically.

Despite moments of doubt, she rationalized her involvement by focusing on her supposed dysfunction. Mack initially thought Raniere was a safe and caring person, unaware of the manipulation at play.

She served two years of a three-year sentence for racketeering and conspiracy, released in early 2023. Arrested in 2018 for her involvement with NXIVM, Mack initially posted a $5 million bail.

Facing a potential 14 to 17.5 years in prison, she managed to lessen her sentence by cooperating with federal authorities, providing insights into Raniere’s operations, including branding women and coercing them into sexual acts.

Before her sentencing, Mack expressed deep regret for her actions, stating, “I am sorry to everyone I brought into NXIVM. I am sorry for subjecting you to this twisted man’s diabolical and emotionally abusive plan.” Her words reflected a profound acknowledgment of her past choices.
