McDermott Dismisses Reuniting with Daboll at Bills
After Brian Daboll was let go from his position as head coach of the Giants, it didn’t take long for someone to inquire about Sean McDermott’s interest in bringing back his former offensive coordinator.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, the Bills’ head coach appeared to downplay that possibility for now. “I understand why you would ask that,” he mentioned. “Brian is a great coach. It’s unfortunate what happened to him, but it’s not something we’re considering at this time.”
Before taking over at the Giants, Daboll was the offensive coordinator for the Bills from 2018 to 2021, during which he coached Josh Allen through the first four years of his career. You might recall, they had a friendly exchange earlier this year when the Giants visited Buffalo for a preseason game.
The Bills have struggled a bit in their last five games, managing a 2-3 record, which includes an unexpected loss against the Dolphins recently. Yet, despite these setbacks, McDermott expressed confidence in Joe Brady as the offensive coordinator, referring to him as a “good coach.”
“I believe in our offensive staff and Joe’s leadership to adjust and keep moving forward,” he added. The Bills stand at a 6-3 record this season, sitting second in the AFC East, with the Dolphins and Jets trailing behind.
Daboll’s Departure from the Giants
The Giants had decided to part ways with Daboll after suffering their fourth consecutive defeat, this time a 24-20 loss against the Bears. Chairman John Mara and Chairman Steve Tisch released a joint statement stating, “We talked about the direction of our franchise on the field this morning and concluded it was in our best interest to make a change at the head coaching position at this time.”
During his time with the Giants, Daboll’s record was 20-40-1, with a disappointing 11-33 mark since the start of the 2023 season. Joe Schon will continue as the Giants’ general manager, tasked with hiring the next head coach.
