Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jourdan Lewis recently expressed his discontent regarding Detroit Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown’s choice to perform a dance associated with Donald Trump during a touchdown celebration against the Washington Commanders. Lewis, a veteran in the NFL and former Dallas Cowboys player, voiced his comments on social media but later deleted at least one of his posts.
In a message shared on Monday night, he stated, “The truth has come out,” and questioned whether doing such a thing would be appropriate in a predominantly Black city. Lewis, who hails from Detroit and played college football at the University of Michigan, removed his post after facing backlash from another user on X about St. Brown’s dancing.
In a subsequent post, he mentioned, “I’m going to spread the love,” perhaps trying to shift the focus or soften the previous remarks.
St. Brown and the Lions secured a decisive 44-22 victory over the Commanders, with his celebration occurring in the first quarter, just before Trump arrived at the stadium. The former president was there for the NFL’s “Salute to Service” event, where he acknowledged newly enlisted military members.
After the game, St. Brown elaborated on his choice to dance, saying, “I heard Mr. Trump was going to be at the game. We just decided to have fun and dance because we don’t know how many games the president is going to play.” It’s intriguing, isn’t it? The interplay between sports and politics can be quite a spectacle.
It’s worth noting that presidential attendance at NFL regular-season games is quite rare. The last sitting president to do so was Jimmy Carter, back in 1978. Trump, however, has made appearances at other NFL events, including Super Bowl XI and during his campaign last year.
