Bill Belichick addresses rumors about the Giants following Brian Daboll's dismissal

Speculation began swirling Monday after the dismissal of Giants head coach Brian Daboll.

The question on many minds: Could Bill Belichick be making a return to the Giants, his old team?

At 73, Belichick, currently the head coach at UNC, addressed the potential of coaching the Giants during a press conference on Tuesday.

As expected, he maintained that his focus is on the Tar Heels’ upcoming game.

“This week is all about preparing for Wake Forest,” he stated. “People ask me about returning to the NFL. I’d say, I’ve been through this before. Right now, it’s just about Wake Forest. That’s my priority, really. Next week, we’ll see who our opponent is, but this is where my commitment lies.”

Belichick served as the defensive coordinator under Bill Parcells during the Giants’ Super Bowl victories in 1986 and 1990, and he often expresses fondness for the organization and his legendary player, Lawrence Taylor.

However, the landscape surrounding a potential return for Belichick in 2025 varies greatly from two years ago, when he departed the Patriots after a lengthy tenure filled with success, including six Super Bowl wins.

His relationship with girlfriend Jordon Hudson has faced close public scrutiny, especially as she has made appearances on the sidelines during UNC games this season.

Belichick’s initial foray into college coaching has not gone particularly well, with UNC currently standing at 4-5, including a 2-3 record in the ACC. They had a tough stretch, losing four consecutive games before recently securing victories against Syracuse and Stanford.

After leaving New England, Belichick interviewed for the Falcons’ head coaching position, which ultimately went to Raheem Morris. He then took on various media roles in 2024 before making a surprising move to Chapel Hill.

The Giants fired Daboll shortly after their defeat to the Bears, which put their record at 2-8 and marked their fourth loss this season after failing to maintain a double-digit lead.
