Texas individual charged with allegedly threatening Louisville coach

Indictment Issued for Threats against Louisville Coach

A grand jury in Jefferson County has indicted Brian S. Mandel from Texas for allegedly threatening several individuals connected to the Louisville football program. Among those targeted were head coach Jeff Brohm, his family, and quarterback Miller Moss.

According to court documents, Mandel faces multiple counts of second-degree terroristic threats along with an attempted extortion charge. A judge has issued an arrest warrant for him, but as of Tuesday evening, he was still at large. His bail has been set at $100,000.

The attempted extortion charge reportedly arises from Mandel allegedly trying to acquire more than $10,000 in property from Moss by making threats of harm.

The indictment notes that the threats were made between November 8 and November 9, and interestingly, Louisville’s offensive coordinator, Brian Brohm—who is related to Jeff—was also mentioned as a target.

As for the motive behind these threats, it remains unclear, and the indictment lacks a thorough explanation. An unnamed officer from the university police has been called as a witness for the prosecution.

A spokesperson from the athletics department expressed support for law enforcement’s prompt actions. They emphasized the importance of safety in the community and sports, reiterating that threats of violence are unacceptable.

The statement concluded by reaffirming the university’s commitment to providing a safe environment for all students, athletes, and staff.

Mandel is set to appear in court for his arraignment on November 17.
