Teen Arrested for Assaulting Police Vehicle with Shovel
A Florida teenager was taken into custody after allegedly striking a police vehicle with a shovel, resulting in significant damage.
On November 3, officers from the Port St. Lucie Police Department responded to a disturbance call at a home on Bartel Avenue. Upon arrival, they found 15-year-old Amy Chance in the street, wielding a shovel.
Body camera footage recorded by the police shows Chance turn and hit the hood of the patrol car repeatedly. As the officers exited their vehicle, they instructed him to “put the shovel down” and then commanded him to “get on the ground.”
As the situation escalated, Chance tossed the shovel away when an officer aimed a stun gun at him, after which he was handcuffed and arrested.
The police cruiser sustained more than $1,200 worth of damage, according to authorities.
In response to the incident, the police department announced that Chance faces a felony charge for criminal mischief. They emphasized their stance: “Regardless of age, anyone who intentionally causes damage to people or property in the city will be arrested.” They also noted that Chance was detained without further incident, thanks to the officers’ training.
As of now, there has been no information regarding legal representation for Chance, and the police department has not provided additional comments on the incident.
