Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown reportedly acted independently on a questionable Eagles play

Philadelphia Eagles’ Offensive Decisions Stir Controversy

The Philadelphia Eagles have proven they’re not shy about taking chances, despite what their coach may claim.

On Tuesday, Bill Corrallo from 97.5 The Fanatic shared unsettling information regarding quarterback Jalen Hurts and star receiver AJ Brown. He mentioned that they had made a significant error during a crucial fourth-down play, which played out near the end of Monday night’s tightly contested win over the Green Bay Packers.

“Just before I went live, I received word from several trusted sources that AJ and Jalen had, perhaps, crossed a line again,” Colarullo stated.

According to Colarullo, the deep pass attempt on that fourth down was, well, not originally orchestrated by Coach Nick Sirianni and his offensive coordinator, Kevin Pattullo. He described Hurts and Brown’s actions as “out of control” once again.

Colarullo expressed uncertainty about what the initial plan for the play was.

Fans were left scratching their heads when, after a strong defensive season and holding just a three-point edge, the defending Super Bowl champions decided to go for it on fourth-and-6 from Green Bay’s 35-yard line with just 30 seconds remaining.

Everyone was stunned to see Hurts throw a long pass to Brown, resulting in a messy incompletion.

ESPN even caught a glimpse of head coach Nick Sirianni visibly irritated by the outcome of that play.

Even Troy Aikman, commenting on the game, voiced his confusion about why Philadelphia made such a risky move with only a three-point lead.

Despite the chaotic moment, the Eagles did secure a win. Sirianni defended the choice, but the play had echoes of a previous controversial moment from two seasons back.

Fans drew parallels to the Eagles’ frustrating loss to the Seattle Seahawks back in December 2023, where Sirianni took heat for insisting Brown and DeVonta Smith attempt deep passes rather than exploiting defensive weaknesses.

Shortly after that game, Brown suggested Sirianni wasn’t at fault; rather, he said it was more an issue with the receiving corps making unplanned adjustments.

Colarullo commented again, “AJ and Jalen seem to have gone off script yet again, and that’s concerning.”

Hurts’ choice to target Brown in this game felt particularly dangerous, given their apparent mismatch this season.

That final attempt to connect was only Brown’s third target of the night, resulting in just 13 yards from two catches.

With three consecutive seasons of over 1,000 receiving yards, Brown’s current stats are starkly less impressive: 31 receptions for 408 yards and three touchdowns over eight games this year.

Yet, there was a moment of brightness when they connected in a previous match, scoring a crucial 45-yard touchdown against the Minnesota Vikings, securing a win in Week 7.

The Eagles, now 7-2, are looking to build on their winning streak as they face the Detroit Lions (6-3) at Lincoln Financial Field for “Sunday Night Football.”
