Florida Surgeon General Tells Residents They Are Not Required to Follow Unpredictable Mask Rules

Florida’s Surgeon General on Mask and Vaccine Policies

Florida’s Surgeon General, Joseph Ladapo, recently reminded residents that they are not obliged to follow the sometimes arbitrary mask and vaccine mandates implemented by certain healthcare facilities as the U.S. enters the winter season. He pointed out that such requirements can only be enforced in “very specific and clinically appropriate circumstances.”

“It’s that time of year again when some health care facilities adopt capricious mask and vaccine policies,” Ladapo noted at the beginning of his statement.

He emphasized that masks are only required in particular situations, and mandated vaccinations, including for influenza, are prohibited. He encouraged Floridians who may face issues regarding these mandates to reach out through the Florida Health website to file complaints.

Ladapo has been an outspoken advocate for personal choice regarding vaccines and mask-wearing in Florida. This stance contrasts with the conventional guidelines established during the coronavirus pandemic, as he urges residents to make their own informed health decisions.

In a recent announcement, he stated that the Florida Department of Health is collaborating with the DeSantis administration to eliminate all vaccine requirements under state law.

“To the last man,” he remarked, expressing his belief that the existing mandates are misguided and reflect disdain for individual rights.

“Who am I as a government figure? What right do I have to dictate what people put in their bodies?” Ladapo questioned. “I don’t have that authority over you or your children.”

He further asserted that each individual’s body is a divine gift, emphasizing personal agency in health decisions. “What you choose to put in your body is between you, your body, and your relationship with God. The government has no claim over that.” His remarks were met with applause.

Governor Ron DeSantis supported these sentiments, suggesting that a breakdown in public trust has spurred this initiative.

Both DeSantis and Ladapo stressed that parents should make medical decisions for their children, asserting that many parents in Florida are struggling to find pediatricians if they wish to alter their vaccination schedules, which they believe is a significant concern.

“In a free Florida, parents—not the government—should make choices about their children’s health in consultation with their pediatricians,” Ladapo concluded.
