State Department Discusses Cooperation with Mexico on Drug Cartels

During a recent television segment, State Department Chief Press Secretary Tommy Piggott shared that various countries are keen to collaborate with the United States to target and dismantle drug cartels.

Host Mike Slater raised concerns about U.S.-Mexico cooperation, citing a tragic incident where a Mexican mayor, who had been critical of the president’s crime policies, was assassinated.

“Such incidents are frequent in Mexico,” Slater remarked. “We’ve seen journalists and others who oppose the cartels being killed. What steps are we taking regarding the drug crisis just south of our borders? How is the collaboration with Mexico going?”

Piggott emphasized that the State Department is indeed working closely with the Mexican authorities on these issues.

“The Mexican government has taken significant actions, including deploying military forces and addressing illegal immigration heading into our country. This is the type of cooperation we aim for, though we, of course, seek to strengthen it further,” he said.

He continued, “The president has recently mentioned a comprehensive approach to border security. We’ve seen results, with hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants attempting to cross the border each month, yet now we see stricter measures in place allowing only legal entries,” attributing this success to President Trump’s commitment to these policies.

“We’re actively collaborating with the Mexican government. Our relationship is solid, and we’re also coordinating with other nations in the region to curb illegal immigration throughout the entire route. This situation is unsettling for the U.S. and any country along that route,” he added. “Many nations are eager to join forces with us, having witnessed the turmoil generated by these cartels.”

Piggott noted, “They observe the influx of drugs and the resulting instability. Countries are motivated to assist us in combating the cartels that exploit migration routes, thereby helping to manage illegal immigration. Thanks to these efforts, our borders are becoming more secure,” he concluded.
