Actors Michael Caine and Matthew McConaughey Partner with AI Voice Cloning Company

Michael Caine and Matthew McConaughey have teamed up with Eleven Labs, a voice cloning company, to enable their voices to be replicated using artificial intelligence technology.

Caine remarked that Eleven Labs “uses innovation to celebrate humanity, not replace it.” He emphasized that the goal is not to substitute voices but rather to enhance them and provide opportunities for emerging storytellers globally.

McConaughey, who has invested in the New York-based startup for several years, shared that the specifics of the financial agreement remain undisclosed. He mentioned that this collaboration will enable him to deliver audio in Spanish for newsletters.

Founded in 2022, Eleven Labs initially created technology aimed at dubbing the audio of movies, audiobooks, and video games into various languages, while maintaining the original voices and emotions of the speakers.

Despite its innovations, Eleven Labs acknowledged in January 2023 that incidents of voice cloning misuse were on the rise and indicated plans to implement protective measures, such as limiting functionalities to paying users.

However, a year later, issues arose when a digital consultant successfully used Eleven Labs’ technology to mimic then-President Joe Biden’s voice in a robocall, which was sent to numerous voters in New Hampshire.

The company states it is now taking further actions to safeguard against the unauthorized reproduction of celebrities’ voices and other public figures.
