Amon-Ra St. Brown has expressed regret over his touchdown celebration from Sunday. The standout wide receiver for the Lions opted for a rendition of the “Trump dance” after scoring in the first quarter during a game against the Commanders.
At that game in Landover, Maryland, President Donald Trump was in attendance, accompanied by several Cabinet members, including House Speaker Mike Johnson and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
During a recent episode of the “St. Brown Podcast,” which he co-hosts with his brother Echnimius, St. Brown mentioned that he didn’t intend to upset anyone with his dance moves. “I apologize if I offended anyone. That wasn’t my goal. We were just having a good time,” he explained. “If the president had been dancing, I would have joined in too. It doesn’t really matter who it is.”
Notably, Trump made history by being the first sitting president to attend an NFL regular season game since Jimmy Carter in 1978. During St. Brown’s celebration, he pointed toward the crowd and waved, similar to Trump’s familiar gestures. The video from the moment cheekily dubbed him “Amon Ra Saint Trump.”
St. Brown reiterated that his intention was purely for enjoyment. “We were just dancing and having fun. Nothing more to it,” he added.
Interestingly, St. Brown isn’t the only member of the Detroit sports scene to channel presidential vibes this year. Back on September 11, a few players from the Tigers celebrated at Yankee Stadium with the same dance while Trump was also present.
On the field, the three-time Pro Bowler is having an impressive season, with 64 receptions and eight touchdowns over nine games so far.
