Rev. Jesse Jackson Hospitalized Due to Neurological Condition

Civil rights leader Rev. Jesse Jackson, aged 84, is currently hospitalized and being monitored for progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), as announced by his organization on Wednesday.

The Rainbow Push Coalition shared that Jackson has been living with this neurodegenerative disease for over a decade, originally diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, which was later confirmed as PSP in April 2024. “The family appreciates all prayers at this time,” the organization stated.

Details about Jackson’s condition remain limited.

Progressive supranuclear palsy is a rare condition that affects movement, balance, and eye control, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.

Supporters and well-wishers have flooded the Rainbow PUSH Coalition’s Instagram page with messages. Many expressed their gratitude for Jackson’s significant contributions to civil rights, while sharing prayers for his recovery.

Interestingly, just a month ago, Jackson’s birthday was celebrated with touching tributes from the Coalition. In their message, they noted, “Your life’s work has shaped the conscience of a nation. For more than 60 years, you have led with courage, conviction, and steadfastness, fighting for justice, dignity, and equality for all.”

The statement underscored Jackson’s unwavering commitment to humanity, reminding everyone of the importance of hope and faith, especially during challenging times.
