Heated Altercation in Blazers vs. Pelicans Game
During a matchup on Wednesday night, Jerami Grant of the Portland Trail Blazers and Yves Missi from the New Orleans Pelicans found themselves in a heated exchange underneath the basket, leading to both players being ejected before halftime.
This incident unfolded with a little over six minutes remaining in the second quarter, with the score tied at 39-39 after a missed three-point shot by Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III. As the two players chased the ball, it sailed over the backboard and went out of bounds.
Prior to the confrontation, they were already in close proximity when things escalated quickly. Players from both teams rushed in and the situation became a bit chaotic until the referees intervened to separate Grant and Missi. Interestingly, Grant seemed to take the more aggressive stance, grabbing hold of Missi’s arms and pushing her away.
This physical interaction drew technical fouls for both players, resulting in their early exit from the game. Additionally, teammates Shaydon Sharpe of the Trail Blazers and Herbert Jones of the Pelicans were also noted for their involvement in the fray, leading to offsetting technical fouls.
While the confrontation didn’t escalate to punches being thrown, it remains possible that further disciplinary action from the NBA could follow for those involved.
In the end, despite the drama, the Trail Blazers managed to secure a victory over the Pelicans, winning 125-117, with Shaydon Sharpe scoring a season-high 35 points. The game notably took place without key players like Zion Williamson, Dejounte Murray, and Jordan Poole.
