Pittsburgh Tech Entrepreneur Faces Felony Charges

A 57-year-old tech entrepreneur from Pittsburgh, known as the founder and chairman of Govini, is facing felony charges in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. This follows allegations that he attempted to solicit sexual contact from a young girl.

According to reports from local media, Eric T. Gillespie was taken into custody on Tuesday as part of a sting operation run by the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Child Predators Unit, which was set up to track individuals attempting to meet minors online.

Attorney General Dave Sunday stated that undercover agents utilized a chat platform typically frequented by individuals seeking illicit interactions with children. During the investigation, Gillespie was identified while operating under a pseudonym, apparently trying to connect with underage users.

Gillespie, who resides in Pittsburgh’s South Side area, established Govini with the aim of revolutionizing how the government utilizes artificial intelligence and data for decision-making. Notably, his company recently exceeded $100 million in annual revenue and has secured substantial contracts with federal entities including the Department of Defense and Homeland Security.

In the wake of the charges, Govini placed Gillespie on administrative leave and expressed its intention to fully cooperate with law enforcement inquiries. The company recognized the gravity of the situation and emphasized its commitment to maintaining high ethical standards among its employees.

He faces four felony charges in connection with the case. A judge has denied him bail due to concerns over potential flight risk and public safety. Meanwhile, the Attorney General’s Office noted that Gillespie denies the allegations against him.

The incident has sent ripples through Pittsburgh’s vibrant tech scene. As the legal proceedings unfold, authorities encourage anyone with further information about the case or additional victims to step forward. The Attorney General’s Office is dedicated to actively identifying and apprehending online predators who target children.
