Fan reaches for Ariana Grande at 'Wicked: For Good' premiere in Singapore

Ariana Grande faced a frightening incident recently at the premiere of “Wicked: For Good” in Singapore. Several videos captured a fan leaping over a barricade and rushing towards her. As he got close, he reportedly put his arm around her neck, prompting co-star Cynthia Erivo to quickly intervene and pull him away.

Grande, Erivo, along with other stars like Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum, were attending the event to mark the anticipation of the second “Wicked” film, set for release on November 21.

A post shared by another attendee showed the confrontation, with the caption expressing gratitude for walking the yellow carpet alongside Grande. This post quickly drew thousands of comments, many of which condemned the fan’s actions. Messages ranged from shock, with comments like, “You literally assaulted her,” to deeper reflections on their significance, particularly given Grande’s history with trauma following the Manchester bombing.

Grande has openly discussed her struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), stemming from the 2017 attack during her concert in Manchester, which left 22 people dead and many more injured. In previous interviews, she revealed how challenging it has been to share her experience, often feeling the need to prioritize the pain of others over her own. The lingering effects of that tragic night weigh heavily on her, and she often finds it difficult to articulate those feelings without becoming emotional.

That night in Manchester clearly impacted not only her but many others, with hundreds reported to have suffered psychological and physical injuries. Grande’s response to that trauma is both personal and complex, navigated through the lens of her artistry and life. As she continues to address her experiences publicly, the interactions at events like the premiere bring both excitement and, clearly, moments of serious concern for her safety.
