Kayla Nicole, an entrepreneur and social media personality, recently issued an apology after old tweets of hers resurfaced, leading to renewed scrutiny. Nicole, who had a lengthy on-and-off relationship with NFL player Travis Kelce, reportedly deactivated her X account following the backlash.
On Thursday, she took to her Instagram Story to express her remorse, saying, “I would like to take a moment to sincerely apologize for the hurtful tweets I posted many years ago. It was incredibly difficult to see them resurface last week. Reading it now, I’m ashamed to have thought or spoken that way. They were ignorant, harmful and flat out wrong.”
Nicole explained her decision to delete her X account, stating it was to stop the “chain of hatred.” She emphasized, “The woman I am today would never use such words or express such views. I’ve seen firsthand how cruel and harmful online hate can be.” She added that she has removed the harmful tweets and her account entirely to avoid perpetuating negativity.
Taking responsibility, she continued, “I take full responsibility for my posts and am truly sorry to those I may have hurt. My heart, values, and perspective are completely rooted in empathy, love, and respect for others. I cannot change the past, but I will continue to show through my actions who I’ve become.”
The controversial tweets from the early 2010s contained vulgar language, and Nicole’s Halloween costume mimicking a scene from Toni Braxton’s music video also caught attention. Some interpreted that as a reflection of her feelings for Kelce, but she denied that idea.
After their split, Kelce began dating singer Taylor Swift, and the two recently announced their engagement. Swift’s latest album included a song that some believe criticizes Nicole, although she has not publicly commented on that aspect.
Kelce is currently in his 13th NFL season with the Kansas City Chiefs, who recently had a bye and will face the Denver Broncos this Sunday.
