Relationship Between Obama and Biden Faces Strain
ABC reporter Jonathan Karl discussed the declining relationship between former President Barack Obama and Joe Biden. He noted that there has been little interaction between the two recently, despite them being seen at the same restaurant.
During a segment on Katie Couric’s podcast, Karl referenced a sighting of both at Café Milano in Washington, D.C., where “security details forced them to space each other out.” However, there was no interaction.
Couric questioned Karl about their current relationship, to which he replied, “They didn’t interact at all. Were they at the same restaurant?” He went on to describe their relationship as “very bad,” suggesting that the Bidens hold Obama responsible for Biden’s exit from the presidential race last year after a poor debate performance against Donald Trump.
“It’s not a good relationship. If they had wanted to meet, they definitely would have,” Karl remarked. He highlighted that Biden and his team have criticized Obama for allegedly pushing him out of the campaign.
Interestingly, after the Democrats changed their nominees, Biden reached out to Vice President Kamala Harris for her support but notably did not call Obama. Karl expressed surprise at this, noting that Obama had once played a critical role in Biden’s ascent to the presidency.
“He didn’t answer his calls and the two didn’t speak for weeks,” Karl stated, mentioning that Obama attempted to reach Biden but received no response.
It’s worth mentioning that President Obama swiftly endorsed Harris as the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, praising her “vision, character, and strength” for the current political climate.
These insights come amid ongoing speculation throughout Biden’s administration that Obama might still be a significant influence behind the scenes during Biden’s presidency. Additionally, there was a notable incident in July during a fundraiser where Biden appeared to be frozen on stage and was eventually escorted off by Obama.
However, some refute these claims. A report from the Associated Press highlighted that certain members of Biden’s team and anonymous attendees denied that he froze on stage, providing an alternate perspective on the incident.
