Kimberly Guilfoyle Discusses Relationships in First Interview as U.S. Ambassador to Greece
Kimberly Guilfoyle, the newly appointed U.S. ambassador to Greece, shared insights about her personal relationships during her first interview in this diplomatic role. She mentioned that she still has a positive relationship with her ex-husband, California Governor Gavin Newsom.
Guilfoyle, who was once engaged to Donald Trump Jr., acknowledged Newsom’s current spouse, Eric Villency, referring to him as a reliable individual. Reports indicate that during the interview, billed as her first as a diplomat, the topic of her past marriage was brought up.
During the conversation, Guilfoyle emphasized that divorce doesn’t necessarily preclude ex-partners from being amicable. She noted that she has an excellent rapport with Newsom, who has often been critical of President Trump during his tenure as a Republican.
In her remarks, she also spoke highly of Villency, highlighting a friendship that has lasted two decades and noting their shared experience as co-parents.
“What people need to know about me is that I don’t quit,” she stated, according to the translated interview. “I’m loyal and you can always count on me.”
Guilfoyle was married to Newsom from 2001 to 2005 and Villency from 2006 to 2009. An email seeking comment from Newsom’s office went unanswered as of Friday.
Aside from her personal reflections, Guilfoyle was officially sworn in as the first female U.S. ambassador to Greece this month. At the welcome reception earlier in November, she expressed confidence in creating strong ties between the two nations. “I will not let the United States down. I won’t let Greece down,” she asserted.
Her connection to the Trump family began in 2018 when she began dating Donald Trump Jr. They got engaged on New Year’s Eve in 2020, but their relationship reportedly ended in December 2024.
Following her appointment, Guilfoyle committed to advancing issues aligned with the president’s agenda and enhancing Greece-U.S. relations.
