New Amelia Earhart Records Released
Recently, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) unveiled a collection of documents regarding the mysterious disappearance of aviation icon Amelia Earhart from 1937. These newly released records encompass 4,624 pages, which include U.S. Navy submissions that documented their search for Earhart, details on her flight preparations, news articles about her vanishing, and other relevant materials.
The National Archives noted that on September 26, 2025, former President Donald Trump ordered the declassification and release of records pertaining to Earhart’s final travels and other aspects of her life. A dedicated website is set up to host these documents and will continue to grow as more materials are made available.
Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence, mentioned in a post that these documents will be continually updated with contributions from various agencies. She highlighted that the records contain reports, maps, and documents documenting Earhart’s last known communications and the initial search efforts following her disappearance.
Furthermore, Gabbard expressed gratitude towards President Trump for prompting this historic endeavor to digitize and publicly share the records.
In a tweet, Gabbard emphasized the significance of the records, describing them as crucial in tracking Earhart’s journey. However, ODNI has not yet responded to inquiries from the Daily Caller News Foundation regarding this release.
Trump also reflected on Earhart’s legacy, recalling her as an aviation trailblazer and the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic. He noted that her unexpected disappearance nearly 90 years ago continues to intrigue countless individuals.
Besides Earhart’s records, there are broader efforts underway to declassify documents from the Trump administration concerning other historical events, such as the assassination files of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and John F. Kennedy, which will also see releases in 2025.
One figure notably invested in uncovering the truth behind Earhart’s disappearance is Timothy Mellon, an 83-year-old billionaire, who has lived a somewhat private life, recently making headlines for a significant donation to support U.S. troops during a government shutdown.
