Cam Newton experiences exhaustion after Grambling fight

Brawl Leads to Player Suspensions at Football Game

Over the weekend, a significant altercation occurred during halftime between players from Grambling State University and Bethune-Cookman University. This incident has led to the suspension of more than 20 players.

Both institutions are historically black colleges and universities. Former NFL player Cam Newton, who discussed the rivalry on his podcast, expressed concern that the actions of the students and coaches were damaging to the progress of these institutions.

Newton articulated his thoughts, stating, “We’re facing a decline in visibility and have sparked a civil war in the world of football. What’s going on?” He continued, emphasizing the broader implications, suggesting that representatives of black culture across conferences like MEAC, SWAC, and others should consider how this incident might hinder progress.

After the fight, Grambling State’s head coach Mickey Joseph condemned the behavior, asserting that “disrespect is met with disrespect.” Although he later issued an apology, Newton remained skeptical about its sincerity.

“It’s truly frustrating. Imagine if a similar brawl erupted during College Game Day at LSU versus Alabama. Those scenarios play out differently,” Newton remarked. He expressed that the focus should be on response actions, implying a need for accountability.

Blaze TV Host Jason Whitlock commended Newton’s honest critique, suggesting it represents a step towards genuine progress. “Athletes transitioning into media roles are beginning to call out unacceptable behavior among their peers—previously, such criticisms might have been labeled as ‘racist’ or ‘Uncle Tom’,” Whitlock noted.

He praised Newton’s willingness to address the issue, urging that it’s essential when people resembling him engage in constructive critique.
