Ukrainian Corruption Scandal Involves Former Zelensky Ally
A former associate of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is facing serious allegations surrounding a $100 million embezzlement scheme.
Timur Mindych, once a business partner of Zelensky, has been pinpointed by Ukraine’s anti-corruption agency as the ringleader of a scheme involving top officials and the state nuclear energy entity. There were concerns that Mindych’s connections to Zelensky could amplify his influence in various lucrative sectors in Ukraine.
Mindych purportedly coerced contractors linked to Energoatom, the state-run nuclear firm, into paying kickbacks—rumored to be as steep as 15%—to circumvent bureaucratic processes.
Interestingly, despite their past partnership, Zelensky is not under investigation. After the anti-corruption findings were disclosed, he also imposed sanctions on another former associate.
Trump Administration Remains Silent Amid Scandal
On November 11, Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau announced that figures including Mindych had orchestrated a significant corruption operation targeting major state enterprises, particularly the State Atomic Energy Agency. Ukrainian media reported that on November 10, officials searched Mindych’s property, but he had already fled after receiving a warning.
Reports suggest Mindych may have escaped to Israel as authorities closed in on him.
In an evening address, Zelensky emphasized the necessity for effective anti-corruption measures, asserting that “we need the inevitability of punishment,” according to the Kiev Independent.
Resignations Amid Corruption Investigation
The NABU’s inquiry spanned over 15 months, involving extensive surveillance and numerous property searches, as reported by the Kyiv Independent.
Activist Tetiana Shevchuk commented, “What we only heard in rumors is now evidence,” highlighting that Mindych was often seen as the covert leader of the energy sector.
Moreover, Justice Minister Herman Khrushchenko, who was involved in the energy sector from 2021 to 2025, had his property searched as part of the investigation.
Mindych was a co-owner of Zelensky’s production firm, Kvartal 95, which is believed to have propelled him into a political role. Shevchuk noted that Mindych likely wouldn’t have reached such levels of power or influence without his ties to Zelensky. The gravity of the situation is compounded by the wartime context and the impact on energy resources during a time of widespread outages for many Ukrainians.
It’s worth mentioning that this isn’t the only investigation into Mindych; anti-corruption bodies are reportedly looking into connections between former associates of Zelensky and Firepoint, a leading drone manufacturer in Ukraine. However, findings from this investigation haven’t been publicly shared yet.
Fox News Digital has sought comments from Zelensky’s office regarding the ongoing developments.
