Tennessee Police Officer in Serious Condition After Accident Involving Vance’s Motorcade

Police Officer Injured in Motorcade Collision in Maryville

A police officer sustained serious injuries Friday night when two law enforcement vehicles were involved in a crash while escorting Vice President J.D. Vance’s motorcade in Maryville, Tennessee, according to local authorities.

The incident took place about 27 miles south of Knoxville, involving a Tennessee State Trooper and a Maryville Police Department motorcycle officer. They were part of a security detail for an event connected to a fundraiser at the Blackberry Farm Resort in Walland.

Jason Pack, communications director for the Tennessee Department of Safety, mentioned that an ambulance assigned to the convoy quickly arrived on the scene and began to treat the injured officer. Later, the city confirmed via social media that the officer was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center and is currently in critical condition.

Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp encouraged the community to keep the officers and their families in their thoughts. “I ask you to keep the police officers, their families, and medical staff in your prayers,” he said in a statement.

Initially, officials had indicated that the officer involved had not been hospitalized, but it was later clarified that both the injured officer and the motorcycle officer were evaluated and treated at a local hospital. As of the latest reports, their conditions had not been made public.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol has initiated an investigation into the details surrounding the crash.

Catherine Pierce, the Secret Service’s resident agent in charge of Knoxville, stated that the agency was monitoring the situation but emphasized that the vice president’s motorcade was not impacted. “The safety and mobility of protected persons was not affected in this incident,” Pierce noted.
