Nets’ Recent Game Insights and Player Performances
In Washington, Egor Demin started for the Nets in their last four outings but only managed seven minutes in the second half during Friday’s game against Orlando.
Manager Jordi Fernandez opted for veteran Tyrese Martin after the Magic improved to a record of 25 wins and 5 losses.
“What we’re really trying to find is a group that can give us a good run,” Fernandez mentioned, emphasizing the importance of team dynamics rather than just individual players.
“Egor faced a very physical team, and that experience is crucial. But it’s not only about rookies; I get asked about them all the time, but it’s everyone. We’ve improved as a unit even if it’s just by 1 percent,” he added, pointing to the team’s focus on collective growth.
Since coming off the bench due to Cam Thomas’ hamstring injury, Demin has shown promise, averaging 10.5 points and 4.3 assists while shooting 41.2% overall and 40.9% from beyond the arc in a recent game against Washington.
Michael Porter Jr. has become a standout, being one of only four players to average 23 points, six rebounds, and at least three three-pointers per game, alongside Luka Doncic, Lauri Markkanen, and James Harden. In Friday’s match, he scored 24 points and gathered 11 rebounds while providing a career-high seven assists. However, his shot selection dwindled in the fourth quarter, registering only 1-of-6 shooting.
“We need to create better offensive opportunities for ourselves and not settle for tough shots, especially late in the game,” Porter acknowledged, showing awareness of the team’s needs.
Nick Claxton has also increased his performance, lifting his averages from 10.8 points and 5.3 rebounds in the first four games to 17.1 points and 7.8 rebounds in the subsequent eight games. However, his defensive rebounding needs improvement, as his current average of 3.9 rebounds isn’t quite sufficient for a starting center.
Claxton commented on his team’s struggles with defensive rebounding: “We have to improve that; it’s definitely an area we need to focus on.” Fernandez praised Claxton’s high standards, saying, “He sets the bar high for himself, and that’s something I really appreciate.”
In other news, the White House has made allegations against Alibaba, the company co-founded by Nets owner Joe Tsai, claiming it provided technical support to Chinese military efforts against U.S. targets.
This assertion comes from a memo released by President Donald Trump’s administration, based on classified information. Alibaba has firmly denied the accusations, hinting that they might stem from operatives trying to disrupt U.S.-China trade relations. They also criticized the validity of the report and the motives behind its publication.
Following a recent meeting between Presidents Trump and Xi Jinping in South Korea, Alibaba stated, “The claims in the article are completely false, and this PR stunt seems to come from those looking to undermine the recent trade deal.”
