New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd was reportedly injured in a shooting that took place in New York City early Sunday morning.
The incident occurred around 2 a.m. ET on West 38th Street, according to the NYPD. Officers discovered a 29-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the abdomen, who was quickly transported to a hospital.
Authorities confirmed that Boyd was indeed the shooting victim. The Jets later released a statement regarding the situation. “We are aware of the situation regarding Kris Boyd and have no further comment at this time,” the team informed.
Reports indicate Boyd is in serious but stable condition.
Boyd is on the New York Jets roster.
Boyd joined the Jets after spending the previous season with the Houston Texans, but he hasn’t participated in any regular-season games so far due to injuries. He was placed on injured reserve back in August.
Background on Kris Boyd
Born on September 12, 1996, in Gilmer, Texas, Boyd had a notable high school football career where he played as a running back. He accumulated over 1,200 rushing yards, scored 19 touchdowns, and also made 18 tackles on defense, which earned him the Offensive Rookie of the Year award in his district.
His impressive performance led him to the 2015 U.S. Army All-America Bowl, after which he committed to playing for the Texas Longhorns.
College Career
During his four seasons at Texas, Boyd played as a defensive back. He appeared in 51 games, recorded 191 total tackles, and made 6.5 tackles for loss. He also led the Big 12 in consecutive pass breakups for two years in a row.
In 2017 and 2018, he received recognition by being named to the Associated Press All-Big 12 teams.
NFL Career
Boyd was selected in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings, being the 217th pick overall. He spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Vikings, totaling 95 tackles, three pass breakups, and recovering four fumbles, while also contributing to special teams.
After the 2022 season, Boyd didn’t return to the Vikings and instead signed with the Arizona Cardinals, playing in four games mostly on special teams. He was released in early October 2023.
Subsequently, the Houston Texans signed him roughly a month later, where he became an active player in December. He made his mark during the 2024-25 postseason with a notable kick return play.
Boyd signed with the Jets earlier this year.

His one-year contract with the Jets is reported to be worth around $1.6 million, bringing his total career earnings to just above $8 million.
