Hallmark Channel Expands Festive Lineup with New Romance Drama
Hallmark Channel is adding to its holiday collection with a new romantic drama titled *Seasonal Information*, starring Tamera Mowry-Housley. The story revolves around a single mother who, while not a fan of the news, aims to support her son’s aspiration of becoming a newscaster. She interacts with a charming local news anchor, played by BJ Britt, who is initially reluctant but gradually forms a bond with both the boy and his mother, ultimately leading him to reconsider his own views on love and journalism.
Adam Cade, portrayed by BJ Britt, works as a prominent face at KCYD, a local news station in Minneapolis. Known for rarely taking time off, even during the holidays, Adam seems focused on advancing his career. However, this changes dramatically when 10-year-old Robbie Sullivan, played by Elijah-Justus Lewis, makes an unexpected appearance during a school visit and, in a burst of enthusiasm, takes over a live broadcast to critique Adam’s seemingly joyless reporting style. This encounter sets him on a new path.
Though only in fifth grade, Robbie is adamant about his future as a news anchor. His mother, Lucy, dislikes news because of its often grim content, so much so that she changes the channel whenever Adam’s segment airs. Still, Lucy wants to support Robbie’s dreams while juggling her responsibilities as a hardworking single mom at a hair salon. Despite her reservations, she doesn’t let her feelings about the news interfere with her son’s ambition. A friend encourages her to explore her own potential, but Lucy feels overwhelmed and exhausted.
Things shift when Adam discovers a binder left behind by Robbie during their field trip. Following this, KCYD producer Todd offers Adam a week-long internship, prompting him to visit Lucy. Surprised by his interest, Lucy tries to impress him while also aiming to open his eyes to the more uplifting side of journalism, especially during festive times.
As Adam spends time with Robbie and Lucy, he begins to appreciate the heartfelt stories that make a real difference. Rekindling his childhood affection for Christmas, Adam faces a pivotal choice when his former professor, Jill, offers him a high-profile newscaster position in Chicago. He starts to rethink his values in relation to his job and the type of stories he wishes to pursue, especially as the holidays approach.
Reflecting on the movie’s premise, you might recall other holiday-themed films that share similar vibes, like *The Newscaster* or *Every Christmas Has a Story*. There’s a noticeable comedic element as well, particularly in dialogue exchanges, like one where Todd jokingly reminds Adam of a past favor involving a concert ticket.
Lucy and Robbie also engage in a heartwarming tradition of volunteering with Angel Gift Charity, emphasizing the importance of giving back to the community. The title, *Seasonal Information*, cleverly evokes the movie’s focus on news, albeit in a holiday context.
While the film boasts endearing performances, particularly from BJ Britt as Adam, the overall script feels somewhat lacking. The characters, including Lucy, come across as one-dimensional, leaving little room for audience connection. I wanted to like *Seasonal Information*, but it doesn’t quite hit the mark to stand out as a memorable holiday film.
In summary, despite the well-meaning cast, *Seasonal Information* struggles to fulfill its potential as a must-see holiday choice. It might be best to skip this one.
How to Watch *Seasonal Information*
