Collinsworth Critiques Controversial Penalty in Eagles’ Win over Lions

NFL commentator Cris Collinsworth voiced his displeasure with a critical penalty during the Philadelphia Eagles’ 16-9 win against the Detroit Lions on Sunday night.

As the Eagles were on third down with just under two minutes remaining, wide receiver AJ Brown was in a tussle with Lions cornerback Rock Ya-Sin while quarterback Jalen Hurts sought to advance the play. An incomplete pass later, a penalty flag was thrown.

Ya-Sin was flagged for pass interference, which essentially sealed the game for the Eagles, making it unlikely for the Lions to recuperate in time. Collinsworth expressed his frustration passionately, stating, “That was an absolutely terrible call that decided this football game. If anything, it’s an offensive push.”

He added, “If you want to call a foul, it’s an offensive foul.”

The Eagles ultimately secured the game on their next drive, thanks to running back Saquon Barkley.

For the second consecutive week, the Eagles’ defense was on point, effectively stifling the Lions’ offensive efforts throughout the match.

This week, the defense faced Lions quarterback Jared Goff, making him uncomfortable and thwarting several of his attempts to score in the latter part of the game. Detroit did manage to kick a field goal shortly before the two-minute mark after another near-Goff pass interference but struggled overall, converting only three of 13 third downs and failing on all five fourth down attempts.

Goff ended the game with 14 completions on 37 attempts, one touchdown to Jameson Williams, and an interception thrown to Cooper DeJean. Eagles defenders were busy, deflecting ten of Goff’s passes while Jordan Davis notably contributed with three deflections.

The Eagles’ offensive performance was underwhelming, with Hurts completing 14 of 28 passes for 135 yards. AJ Brown, amid all the drama, stood out with seven catches for 49 yards, leading the team in targets.

Lions running back Jahmil Gibbs was a highlight for Detroit, making five catches for 107 yards and also rushing for 39 yards on 12 carries.

With this victory, the Eagles improved their record to 8-2, while the Lions fell to 6-4.
