Trisha Yearwood Reflects on Career Choices Post-Marriage to Garth Brooks
Trisha Yearwood recently shared insights into her decision to pause her career after marrying country music icon Garth Brooks. Despite rising to fame with her 1991 song “She’s in Love with the Boy,” Yearwood opted to prioritize her family life over her music career.
At an event titled “In Her Own Words: An Evening with Trisha Yearwood,” she explained, “When I married Garth and moved to Oklahoma, I quit.” I mean, she was no longer on tour for over 200 days a year. Instead, she embraced her role as a stepmother to Brooks’ three children, Taylor, August, and Allie, and focused on making their marriage work. “I learned that a marriage doesn’t thrive if you’re not present,” she added.
Yearwood emphasized the importance of being there for family. “It’s quite essential for us to be together,” she remarked. “I made a conscious decision to attend soccer games and prepare dinner.”
The couple tied the knot in 2005, after years of friendship that began in the 1980s. They collaborated musically until Brooks’ divorce in 2001 paved the way for their romantic relationship. Their wedding was a private affair near Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Yearwood has been open about how her marriage influenced her career. While accepting the inaugural June Carter Cash Humanitarian Award at the 2024 CMT Music Awards, she expressed gratitude towards her family for keeping her authentic. “I had wonderful parents,” she shared. “Even though they are gone, their teachings remain with me… Since Garth couldn’t attend, my sister was my date tonight. It’s about family and roots.” She also mentioned, “I don’t always make the right choices, but I know what’s right because of how I was raised.”
Throughout the 1990s, Yearwood achieved significant success with hits like “Walkaway Joe” and “How Do I Live.” She has won multiple Grammy Awards and received numerous accolades from the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music.
After stepping back from music, Yearwood found a new passion in culinary arts, launching her cooking show, “Trisha’s Southern Kitchen,” on the Food Network in 2012. It ran for 17 seasons before concluding in 2022, earning her a Daytime Emmy Award and leading to several cookbooks.
Yearwood recently celebrated Brooks, calling him “the love of my life” after he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. “He’s my person,” she said, noting that despite his achievements, he finds happiness in the success of others. “He believes in me more than I believe in myself,” she added.
During the Walk of Fame ceremony, she highlighted Brooks’ supportive nature, saying, “He has always been my biggest cheerleader.” It’s evident that their deep bond is not just romantic but also rooted in mutual respect and encouragement.
Yearwood’s journey reflects the balancing act many face between personal and professional lives, showcasing how choices made in love can lead to new paths and fulfilling experiences.
