Ja’Marr Chase spat on Jalen Ramsey, and video confirmed it

AFC North Games: A Choppy Affair

Games in the AFC North often have a rough edge to them, and Sunday’s clash between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Pittsburgh Steelers certainly followed that trend.

During an extended play sequence early in the fourth quarter, the Bengals kept their offense on the field, which resulted in an ejection for Jalen Ramsey after a hit on Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase.

This isn’t where it ends, though. The league has announced plans to investigate the situation further.

The drama began post-whistle after a third-down play when two players became entangled. Eventually, they were separated, leading to offsetting personal foul penalties for Ramsey and Chase. As a result, the Bengals offense stayed on the field during a crucial 4-and-1 situation. Joe Flacco ran a series of shifts and long counts, attempting to catch the Steelers off-guard, before ultimately burning a timeout.

During this pause, Ramsey and Chase continued their animated exchange.

Things escalated when a Pittsburgh trainer approached Ramsey with water; instead of calming down, Ramsey confronted Chase again, which led to Ramsey throwing a punch.

Ramsey later offered his perspective, stating, “He spat on me. As for the football after that, I… well, it just doesn’t matter to me. I enjoy the back-and-forth, the trash talk — it’s part of the game. But when he spit, that crossed a line. It’s on tape; the NFL will sort it out with all their cameras.” Ramsey seemed to suggest there might be some evidence to back his claims about the altercation.

Post-game, Ramsey commented on the incident, implying that Chase’s supposed spit was the catalyst for his reaction.

Chase, however, refuted the claim, stating he did not spit at Ramsey.

Interestingly, video evidence might contradict Chase’s denial, as noted in the “Community Notes.”

When asked about the incident later, referee Bill Vinovich mentioned that officials didn’t witness any spit, adding, “No, obviously not. We didn’t see anything escalate to that level.”

An NFL representative did confirm to ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the league intends to review what happened.

As Ramsey noted, there are quite a few cameras capturing the action.
