Republicans on the Oversight Committee are accusing Democrats of using the ongoing investigation into Jeffrey Epstein as a political weapon to target President Donald Trump instead of focusing on the victims affected by Epstein’s actions.
According to a 10-page internal memo obtained by Fox News Digital, Republican staffers claim that Democrats have intentionally twisted information to create a misleading narrative. The document states, “Unfortunately, during this investigation, Oversight Committee Democrats, led by Ranking Member Robert Garcia (D-Calif.), intentionally mischaracterized witness testimony and selectively released information with targeted redactions to generate disinformation implicating President Trump.”
They further alleged that Democrats suggested their released dossier was meant to confuse and distract from their own narrative about Trump. The investigation started with a goal of transparency but has since devolved into political sparring.
Democrats argue that Republicans are using the investigation to protect Trump, who had connections with Epstein, yet has not been implicated in any wrongdoing. Meanwhile, the Republican majority in the committee insists that they are committed to transparency and accuse Democrats of politicizing the investigation.
The memo states, “Democrats have revealed nothing new, have not released documents that weren’t also given at Republicans’ request, and have merely reinforced what the American public already knows. President Trump knew Jeffrey Epstein years ago, but severed ties and was unaware of Epstein’s criminal activities.”
It also points out a deposition from former Attorney General Bill Barr that apparently found no wrongdoing on Trump’s part, although the memo acknowledges that Barr had “limited knowledge” of the situation.
The Republicans criticized Democrats for selectively leaking emails from about 23,000 documents sourced from the Epstein Foundation to put Trump in a bad light. They argue that some important context was removed, specifically relating to Virginia Giuffre, a prominent Epstein accuser who has stated she never saw Trump do anything wrong.
In a twist, the memo claims Democrats have favored sensationalizing releases about Trump while ignoring messages related to former President Bill Clinton. Democrats are also accused of not cooperating with subpoenas served to the Clintons while only one witness connected to Trump has testified so far.
The memo concludes with strong assertions that the Oversight Committee’s evidence does not implicate Trump and urges the Democrats to stop what they consider to be a whitewash of the investigation.
As the House prepares to vote on a bipartisan bill requiring the Justice Department to release all files associated with Epstein, Trump took to Truth Social, encouraging Republicans to support the bill, asserting, “We have nothing to hide. It’s time to move on from the Democratic Party’s disinformation.”
