Josh Naylor Signs Five-Year Contract with Seattle Mariners
It seems like the MLB offseason is off to a big start. Josh Naylor, the All-Star first baseman, has reportedly agreed to a five-year deal with the Seattle Mariners. This move keeps him with the team through the end of the 2025 season, according to several sources.
While the Mariners haven’t made an official announcement yet, the deal is said to be in the final stages. Naylor became a free agent shortly after the Toronto Blue Jays eliminated the Mariners from the American League Championship Series.
Seattle originally acquired Naylor on July 24, trading Branden Garcia and Ashton Izzy for him. During his time with the Mariners, he played in 54 games, hitting nine home runs and driving in 33 RBIs, with a batting average of .299 and an OPS of .831.
His performance was crucial for Seattle, helping them secure the American League West title with a record of 90 wins and 72 losses. Naylor also shone in the ALCS, hitting three home runs and boasting a .417 batting average with an OPS of 1.273.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson expressed strong support for Naylor, highlighting his intensity and drive. “You need that drive, that will to win, and that’s what you look for in your players,” Wilson noted.
Naylor’s journey started with the San Diego Padres, but he spent a significant part of his career—five out of seven years—with the Cleveland Guardians. Overall, he has a career batting average of .269 and has hit 104 home runs.
