New Reality Series: June Farms

June Farms is set on a “gentleman’s farm” located in upstate New York. Despite having numerous livestock, the farm mainly focuses on hospitality and agritourism. Matt Baumgartner, the founder, transitioned from being a successful restaurateur, selling his establishments to create a farm dedicated primarily to hosting extravagant weddings. Naturally, a reality show like this features an attractive and youthful crew who share an undeniable chemistry.

June Farms: Stream or Skip?

Opening shot: A picturesque view of June Farms near Albany, New York.

Key points: Founded by Matt Baumgartner, June Farms is located in West Sand Lake, New York. He was previously a restaurateur with multiple bars and restaurants around New York City and Albany. After selling everything, he invested in this agritourism venture.

While weddings are the primary focus, the farm also hosts various events throughout the week. The bar and restaurant operate year-round. Recently, Baumgartner constructed themed “wellness huts” for guests, including a hobbit house and a yurt.

The staff, also young and attractive—a reality show hallmark—seems to have personal connections blossoming. For instance, Ellie, one of the bartenders, and Layton, who handles various tasks, are currently dating.

The first wedding featured is between Safiyah and Justin, who envisioned an “enchanted forest” theme. However, the preparations fall short, as the bride discovers a muddy seating area and an incomplete platform, leaving her quite upset. Matt, naturally frustrated, gives Layton specific instructions about the candles. Too bad Layton misses the mark on that.

Reminiscent of: June Farms feels like a blend of Below Deck, early Vanderpump Rules, and Clarkson’s Farm.

Our view: June Farms is just what you’d expect from such a reality series. It showcases a good-looking cast collaborating in a laid-back atmosphere with plenty of drinks. Matt Baumgartner epitomizes a detail-oriented boss who doesn’t hesitate to assert authority when necessary, which is probably why his farm is a hit destination. Interestingly, he mentioned to his team at the start of the wedding season that they should work with intention, even if it means taking a shot or two when appropriate—though moderation might be on the agenda this time around.

As you might guess, each episode will feature at least one wedding with various logistical challenges, whether it’s complex setups or competing events at the farm. This environment also stirs romantic tensions among the staff, adding another layer to the dynamic.

In the premiere, early signs of contention emerge between Matt and Layton. Previously reliable, Layton struggles to meet expectations at the wedding. Matt’s blunt criticism over the phone doesn’t seem to help matters. I wonder if they’ll resolve this issue later in the season. Otherwise, it could become a repetitive cycle of “Will everything be ready on time?”

Featured performance: Ellie and her friend Jill, both bartenders at the farm, share good banter, and Ellie’s chemistry with Layton stands out.

Parting shot: The new couple celebrates with the team during their reception, and even with a last-minute rush, everything turns out just right.

Sleeper Star: Michelle, one of the older staff members, has known Matt throughout his career. She’s definitely one of my favorites to share drinks with during events.

A note on the wedding setup: Somehow, Josh’s attempts to prepare the platform seem to have gone awry. On the wedding day, what was once a framework only added to the couple’s frustration.

Our recommendation: Definitely stream June Farms. The stunning scenery combined with wedding planning and staff drama is bound to keep you entertained. Fingers crossed for a balanced mix of both elements!
