New Information About the Cause of Pop Star Selena Quintanilla's Death Uncovered After 30 Years

Selena Quintanilla’s Autopsy Report Revealed in Netflix Documentary

The Netflix documentary “Selena and Los Dinos: A Family Legacy” has shed light on the details of Selena Quintanilla’s autopsy report, which comes to public attention for the first time—30 years after her tragic death.

Selena, an adored figure, was murdered in March 1995 at just 23 years old by Yolanda Saldívar, who had previously been the president of her fan club. This shocking event garnered significant media coverage, not to mention the 1997 film “Selena,” featuring Jennifer Lopez.

An initial autopsy was performed within just three hours of Selena’s passing, as it was deemed necessary for public interest. According to reports, Coroner Lloyd White determined that Selena died from “internal and external hemorrhage due to perforation of the chest, essentially massive hemorrhage.”

The coroner’s findings noted that the bullet traveled through her back, moving from her ribs to her lungs, ultimately puncturing her chest wall. Authorities discovered an exit wound on the upper front right of her chest, indicating the brutal path the bullet took.

Unfortunately, the bullet struck Selena’s subclavian artery, which significantly contributed to her death. The coroner’s report also highlighted blood found on several parts of the clothing she was wearing when the tragedy occurred.

This intriguing documentary, which contains new footage from the life of the beloved pop star, is set to begin streaming on Netflix on November 17.

In related developments, testimony from Saldívar’s trial indicated that Selena had confronted her over alleged embezzlement from the singer’s business just before her death. Saldívar claimed the shooting was accidental and pleaded not guilty when charged with first-degree murder. She was ultimately convicted and sentenced to life in prison, eligible for parole. However, her application for parole was denied in early March 2025, and she can reapply in 2030.
