Teen Charged in Hammer Attack on Jogger Sparks Immigration Concerns
A 17-year-old undocumented immigrant has been charged with violently assaulting a woman while she was jogging in a Texas park, raising significant concerns about safety and immigration policies. This individual, Sergio Noe de Nova Duarte, a Mexican national, was previously arrested and released by federal immigration authorities during the Biden administration.
Duarte is accused of ambushing a female jogger in a Plano park on November 13, using a hammer to strike her multiple times. Thankfully, the woman fought back and managed to escape. Following the incident, Duarte was apprehended by police the next day, facing severe charges including aggravated kidnapping and assault, categorized as a first-degree felony. He was taken to the Collin County Jail, where it was revealed that he is living in the U.S. illegally.
Authorities from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have since filed an immigration complaint against him. Reportedly, Duarte entered the U.S. legally on a B2 tourist visa back in 2016, but he was supposed to leave by September of that same year.
Interestingly, Duarte had been arrested in 2024 for robbery and theft. During that period, ICE detained him but later released him with a notice requiring him to appear in front of an immigration judge by 2026.
“This criminal illegal alien should never have been allowed to roam our communities, attacking this woman with a hammer as she jogged in the park,” commented Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. She emphasized that under previous administrations, such individuals would have been detained to prevent them from harming innocent citizens.
Upon completion of the necessary protocols between Collin County and the state of Texas, it seems likely that Duarte will face deportation.
