Francesa Reacts to Windy Game Conditions
Mike Francesa expressed his surprise over the lack of attention to wind conditions during a recent game.
The former WFAN host went on an impassioned rant on his podcast, focusing on Fox sideline reporter Christina Pink’s oversight in not mentioning the high winds throughout the Packers’ 27-20 victory against the Giants.
Francesa highlighted how these wind conditions likely influenced the game’s outcome.
“What’s happening with television reporting?” he pondered. “I don’t want to be harsh, but isn’t it time for someone to remind sideline reporters to address the conditions? You’re in Giants Stadium—one of the windiest places in football—and it’s 38 degrees with gusts up to 20 mph. This is significant for the game. Why isn’t anyone talking about it?”
After attending church early Sunday, Francesa said he could tell it would impact the NFC match-up.
According to NFLweather.com, wind speeds were projected to reach between 26 and 37 miles per hour during the game.
Interestingly, neither team attempted a field goal. Packers kicker Lukas Havrisik missed two extra points, while Giants kicker Yonghoe Koo had a long attempt blocked following a 15-yard penalty.
Giants interim coach Mike Kafka noted, “The wind played a role. We considered it in our strategy, especially in how we managed field position. Some directions experienced a more notable impact.” He also expressed that the team was just slightly off in their execution.
Packers coach Matt LaFleur remarked post-game that he was unsure about the wind direction during play.
He did commend the Giants for their initial ball possession and how they leveraged the wind conditions in the fourth quarter.
“It was unpredictable,” LaFleur said, adding, “I looked outside this morning and the flag was completely still, making me think it would be a calm day.” Ultimately, he acknowledged, “It definitely affected some moments.”
