Nasa Astronaut’s Ex-Wife Pleads Guilty
The estranged wife of a NASA astronaut has admitted to providing false information to law enforcement regarding an alleged crime that took place in space.
Summer Warden risks facing up to five years in federal prison and a fine reaching $250,000 due to her misleading statements about Anne McClain, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas.
Back in July 2019, Warden accused her estranged partner of guessing her password and unlawfully accessing her bank account while she was stationed on the International Space Station. However, the case revealed that Warden opened the account back in April 2018 and that both parties had joint access until January 2019, when she changed her credentials. The investigation found that Warden had given access to his banking records, including login information, since at least 2015.
Interestingly, Warden’s original allegation led to investigations by both the Federal Trade Commission and NASA’s inspector general, as reported by the New York Times.
McClain, a distinguished West Point graduate and Iraq War veteran, joined NASA in 2013. She was commander of NASA’s SpaceX Crew 10 mission and returned to the International Space Station in March. Warden and McClain finalized their divorce in January 2020.
The sentencing for Warden is set for February 12, 2026, and she remains out on bail until then.
