Tom Hanks Celebrates NYC Subway with a Song

Tom Hanks has a genuine fondness for the New York City subway, so much so that he even composed a song about it.

During a celebration at The Shed, a non-profit cultural center, he passionately performed a poem dedicated to the number 7 train.

“Words can hardly capture how amazing it feels to be at The Shed every day,” he remarked. “Why? This is officially the last stop of train No. 7.”

He then snapped his fingers and sang, “The cabin is on the Hudson Yards on the Lower West Side, off the High Line. Yes, the cabin is on the Lower West Side, off the High Line at Hudson Yards!”

The Toy Story star, who is 69, kept up the same melody while director Kenny Leon, who joined him on stage, hastened the beat.

Hanks is right about one thing—the 7 train offers convenient access to The Shed, which features the play *This World of Tomorrow*.

He co-wrote and stars in a show about a disillusioned scientist from the future who travels back in time to the 1939 World’s Fair.

This play is based on a short story he wrote, with Leon directing.

During his speech, Hanks expressed admiration for Leon: “Kenny Leon came to direct *This World of Tomorrow,* so there’s proof that God exists.”

He continued, “I can’t fully convey the blessings we’ve received because of his guidance. Let’s just say it’s like having a mom. Can I say that here at The Shed?”

He also humorously mentioned his need to prepare for the performance, noting that the cast, including Kerry O’Hara, feels “so tired and drained on their days off.”

Several famous faces were in attendance, including Meryl Streep, Martin Short, Katie Holmes, and Steve Martin, along with Hanks’ wife Rita Wilson and son Chet Hanks.

Recently, Hanks grabbed attention when he was spotted riding the No. 6 subway train in a low-key manner, even opting for a mask to obscure his face.

The evening also paid tribute to retired ballerina Misty Copeland and NYC Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch.
