Olivia Nuzzi’s Surprising Past
Before she became a journalist, Olivia Nuzzi had dreams of being a pop star at just 16, singing about themes like confinement and temptation. Her track, “Jailbait,” featured lyrics such as, “When you hear my name, bad things happen…” which convey a bold and provocative teenage persona.
A look back at her MySpace page from 2009 reveals a young Livi, decked out in a purple tank dress and thigh-high boots, striking a confident pose. Another image from 2010 shows her in handcuffs with a lace top that left little to the imagination.
Nuzzi’s upcoming book, “American Canto,” set for release on December 2, will provide insight into her year-long correspondence with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. She met him while covering his presidential campaign, and their relationship has since stirred controversy.
Interestingly, Nuzzi has referred to herself as “Libby.” Kennedy, who is married, has denied the alleged affair.
Her MySpace page boasts, “Livi is the future, Livi is the past, ready to conquer the world…” expressing an ambition that seems to transcend her teenage years. Some of her lyrics playfully flirt with themes of sexuality and rebellion, presenting a complex character who is both aware of and critical of societal views on young women.
In a recent excerpt from Vanity Fair, where she now works, Nuzzi reflects on her life through her music. Her song sets a tone: “I’m not your girlfriend… I’ll give you enough and leave you wanting more…” capturing both confidence and an air of mystery.
While Nuzzi was engaged to fellow political reporter Ryan Rizza amid the scandal, it seems her past also includes complex relationships, including one with journalist Keith Olbermann, who notably helped finance her education.
Overall, Olivia Nuzzi’s journey from aspiring pop star to political journalist is one marked by ambition, controversy, and personal evolution.
