Elon Musk forecasts that AI and robotics will make working a choice in the future.

Musk’s Predictions on AI and the Future of Work

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has recently expressed some intriguing thoughts about artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential to reshape the workforce. He attended the US-Saudi Investment Forum and shared his views on how advancements in AI and robotics might lead to a world where work becomes optional within the next 10 to 20 years.

“I’m not exactly sure what long-term means,” Musk admitted, but he suggested that within a couple of decades, working might be something people do if they want to, similar to playing a sport or a game. “You could either go out and buy food, like vegetables, or you could grow them yourself. Sure, growing them might be harder, but some people really enjoy it,” he explained.

Musk went further, speculating that in the future, the concept of money might become somewhat irrelevant due to these advancements. He noted that many discussions around positive AI futures often depict a world without money.

“That’s what the job will be,” he continued, emphasizing that working would be voluntary. Getting to that point, however, won’t be easy. According to him, while there will still be limitations—like energy needs and the principles of physics—currency might lose its significance as technology develops.

In light of his optimistic predictions for AI and robotics, Musk mentioned Tesla’s ongoing project involving a humanoid robot named Optimus, also referred to as Teslabot. He expressed a strong belief that this technology could be revolutionary. “It’s likely to be the biggest industry ever,” he said. Many will want a humanoid robot, which Musk believes could also help eradicate poverty.

“Basically, if you want to create wealth for everyone, it’s about AI and robotics,” he concluded. So, while the journey towards this technological utopia may be challenging, Musk is clearly enthusiastic about the possibilities that lie ahead.
