Jets Cornerback Kris Boyd Recovering After Shooting
Kris Boyd, a cornerback for the New York Jets, is now breathing on his own after suffering a gunshot wound to the abdomen outside a restaurant in Manhattan early Sunday morning.
The 29-year-old player updated fans via his Instagram Story on Wednesday, sharing a photo of himself smiling from his hospital bed.
“God is real, God is powerful!” he wrote.
“Honestly, I don’t even know what to say… I’m just really thankful! I’m starting to breathe on my own and moving forward. Thanks so much to everyone!”
On Sunday morning, Boyd was out at Say Less Asian Fusion on West 38th Street with teammates Jamian Sherwood and Irvin Charles when trouble began, according to law enforcement officials.
As they were leaving around 2 a.m., a confrontation erupted in the street, shots were fired amid a confused crowd, and one bullet struck Boyd in the stomach.
Video from the scene showed two shots ringing out, with people scrambling and throwing punches as chaos ensued.
Boyd was quickly taken to Bellevue Hospital, initially in critical but stable condition, with reports indicating a bullet lodged in his lung.
Officials noted that none of Boyd’s companions were armed at the time.
Jets coach Aaron Glenn visited Boyd shortly after the incident. He mentioned on Wednesday that the player is doing fine.
“It eases my mind to know he’s okay,” Glenn shared. “His wife and child are safe, and he’s going to come through this well.”
Glenn expressed that his first concern was for Boyd’s family. “When I first heard about it, my thoughts went to his family. He just had a baby,” he said. “I just wanted to ensure he and his family were doing alright.”
The Jets signed Boyd during the offseason, primarily as a special teams player, but he also fulfills cornerback duties.
As of now, the New York City Police Department has not announced any arrests related to the shooting but has released surveillance images of the suspect believed to be the shooter.
