First Lady cautions that AI will change the nature of warfare during visit to Marine Corps

Melania Trump Highlights AI’s Impact on Military During Visit

First Lady Melania Trump recently engaged with soldiers and their families during a visit, alongside second daughter Usha Vance. She celebrated the Marine Corps’ impressive 250-year history and cautioned about the significant role artificial intelligence (AI) is expected to play in modern warfare and the defense of the nation.

Speaking at Marine Corps Air Station New River, Mrs. Trump underscored how AI is becoming a crucial component of the national defense strategy under the current administration. It’s an area that her husband, President Trump, has emphasized as transformative for military operations.

“Technology is changing the art of war,” President Trump stated, expressing his belief that AI might reshape warfare more than any advancement since nuclear arms. This shift in focus aligns with the administration’s broader initiative aimed at advancing AI technologies.

The First Lady acknowledged the traditional achievements of the Marine Corps and highlighted the contributions of two Marines present at the event, Sergeant Blake Donoher and Corporal Daishamari Cannon.

President Trump mentioned that, regarding AI, “the most important change is speed,” and he noted that technology would play a central role in future military operations. Nonetheless, he emphasized that Marines would always be integral to mission success.

During her address, Melania made it clear that AI is not just about technological advancements; it’s reshaping the military landscape. President Trump remarked on the transition from human operatives to machine-led operations, indicating that autonomous systems like helicopters and drones are already emerging.

Usha Vance introduced the First Lady, sharing good wishes from Vice President J.D. Vance in celebration of the Marine Corps’ birthday, which falls on November 10th.

The two ladies also spent time at Delario Elementary School, where they participated in fun activities with students, including a lively game that involved matching cards. There, President Trump was seen hugging a shy first grader, making for a tender moment captured in photos.

Mrs. Trump encouraged all military service members and their families, sharing her appreciation for their sacrifices. She said, “Thank you for making sure others can celebrate in peace,” acknowledging the supportive roles that military families play in serving the nation.

Wrapping up her speech, Melania reflected on gratitude during the holiday season, saying, “Let us remember what unites us: our common love for our country.”
