Employees at Vanity Fair, the new workplace for Olivia Nuzzi, are reportedly reeling from allegations that she had an affair with former presidential candidate Mark Sanford. This has sparked discussions about whether the magazine’s parent company, Condé Nast, made a misstep in hiring her.
A report indicates that Vanity Fair’s staff is keenly interested in the potential consequences for Nuzzi, particularly following claims made by her former colleague, Ryan Lizza, regarding another alleged affair involving Sanford.
“There seems to be a focus on leadership,” an anonymous source shared, hinting at concerns within the organization.
Reports suggest it’s been an eventful week at Condé Nast’s offices in Lower Manhattan.
Lizza’s allegations, detailed in a lengthy blog post, include insights into how he and Nuzzi, while covering candidates during the 2020 election, uncovered the affair between Sanford and Nuzzi.
This follows Nuzzi’s recent involvement in a sexting scandal linked to Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., which she had previously covered in New York Magazine.
Before these new allegations arose, Nuzzi seemed to be experiencing a career revival, having published a memoir that included dramatic details about the RFK Jr. situation and securing her position at Vanity Fair.
Her book, “American Canto,” chronicles a digital relationship where the married Kennedy offered reassurance with comments like “Baby, don’t worry” about unverified health concerns. She also recounted a rather provocative remark from him regarding his political viability.
However, the latest claims about Sanford have left Vanity Fair staff pondering the company’s ethical standards under the new editorial direction of Mark Guiducci.
Some employees are even urging management to reassess Nuzzi’s role amid these unfolding allegations.
Condé Nast has yet to comment on the situation since Lizza’s revelations came to light.
The New York Post has reached out to the involved parties for their responses, but none have been made available so far.
Lizza detailed in her blog how she stumbled upon Nuzzi’s affair with Sanford after finding a love letter she had written to him, which had accidentally fallen out of her backpack.
She also accused Nuzzi of allegedly plotting against her with the assistance of senior officials from the Trump administration.
