Democrats Urge Military to Defy Trump Orders
On Thursday, Republican strategist Scott Jennings commented on a video released by six House Democrats, urging U.S. military personnel to disregard potential orders from President Donald Trump.
Democratic Senator Elissa Slotkin from Michigan posted this video on social media, appealing to military and intelligence members to “reject illegal orders.” She collaborated with five other congressional colleagues who possess military or intelligence backgrounds. During a discussion on “The Arena,” Jennings remarked that the Democrats were intentionally provoking their far-left base.
“In my view, they are pushing boundaries by creating provocative videos to please a radical base demanding such actions from Democratic leaders,” Jennings stated.
He dismissed any notion that these six senators would face arrest. “I don’t believe they will be arrested, but we shouldn’t overlook their accountability for what they’ve done. They should know better,” Jennings added.
Jennings emphasized that the White House had already clarified its stance. “Caroline Leavitt, the president’s representative, said explicitly that this isn’t the president’s message. I completely support the call to denounce political violence. To my knowledge, there was no political violence occurring today,” he continued.
Leavitt defended Trump after being questioned about the Democrats’ actions. She claimed that the Democrats’ video encouraging military defiance was “a crime deserving of the death penalty.” Leavitt accused the six lawmakers of conspiring to risk the safety of soldiers by urging them to disregard lawful orders.
“Current members of Congress conspired to send a message that encourages active-duty military to defy the president’s lawful commands. The integrity of our military relies on the chain of command, and if that chain is broken, lives are at risk. This is fundamentally irresponsible behavior from legislators who have vowed to uphold the Constitution,” Leavitt commented.
Lawmakers defended their message, asserting that President Trump aimed to retaliate against them for reaffirming their constitutional duties. They argued that challenging presidential power should not be deemed a capital offense and that they were advocating for military personnel to follow only lawful orders.
