Texas Men Charged in Haiti Invasion Plot
Two men from Texas are facing serious charges related to a plot to invade Haiti, which, according to federal prosecutors, involved murder and the enslavement of women and children. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Texas announced on Thursday that Gavin Rivers Weisenberg, 21, and Tanner Christopher Thomas, 20, have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, assault, kidnapping, and producing child pornography abroad.
Prosecutors allege that the pair’s intentions were quite sinister; they reportedly planned to kill all the men on Gonabe Island to turn women and children into sexual slaves.
Court documents reveal that between August 2024 and July 2025, Weisenberg and Thomas made arrangements for this invasion, described as a “rape fantasy.” They intended to acquire yachts, firearms, and recruit members from the homeless community in Washington, D.C. to assist in their assault on the island.
Interestingly, Thomas even enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, presumably to gain military training that would support their plans. In preparation, they also began learning Haitian Creole and enrolled in schools to acquire skills beneficial for the invasion.
Moreover, both men are suspected of producing child pornography alongside their purported plans for the invasion. Gonabe Island, located in Gonabe Bay, has a population estimated at about 100,000.
If convicted, Weisenberg and Thomas could each face life sentences for their conspiracy charges, with the child pornography charge potentially adding another 15 to 30 years to their sentences.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Texas has not provided any immediate comments regarding the case.
