Brittany Snow Critiques Hollywood’s Ageism Towards Women
Brittany Snow is expressing her thoughts on how Hollywood treats women past a certain age.
During an episode of “Las Culturistas,” the 39-year-old actress shared her views on ageism in the entertainment world, particularly highlighting her role in the racy thriller “The Hunting Wives.” She noted that Hollywood tends to downplay the importance of sex scenes for women after they turn 32. “I think this was just like, ‘No, this is still going to be prevalent in women’s lives even after they get to Hollywood age,’” Snow said.
In “The Hunting Wives,” Snow portrays Sophie, who relocates with her husband from Chicago to a small Texas town. There, she becomes entangled with the mysterious socialite Margo, played by Malin Akerman, along with her group of glamorous friends known as the Hunting Wives. As Sophie’s friendship with Margo deepens, it turns into a complicated mix of obsession, betrayal, and murder.
Snow discussed how she and Akerman approached the film’s intimate scenes, emphasizing that they were clear from the start about how they wanted to be represented. “We’re going to be in our late 30s and 40s, and we’re going to be strong. This is for the female gaze, and we’re going to go for it,” she remarked.
She also mentioned that there was never a moment where they felt embarrassed about the scenes. “We knew we were going to be in it, and we signed up for it,” Snow said, adding that this was something she felt proud of.
In an interview for the November issue of Self magazine, Snow praised Akerman for creating a respectful atmosphere during filming. “A lot of the men in sex scenes are really focused on themselves, their looks… not necessarily thinking about your experience,” she reflected. However, she found that Akerman was extremely considerate, often checking in on her comfort level during their scenes. “It felt really good to have such close attention,” Snow shared.
The series has been well-received, garnering over 5.2 million views within its first week on Netflix. In September, Snow and Akerman revealed that the show would return for a second season, excitedly announcing it in an Instagram video.
Akerman mentioned in October that the new season is on track to come out in the summer of 2026, highlighting the rapid positive response from audiences. “They’re writing passionately,” she said, noting the quick turnaround prompted by the show’s success.
In addition to her role in “The Hunting Wives,” Snow is also featured in Hulu’s “Murdough: Death in the Family” and Netflix’s “The Beast in Me,” which debuted on November 13th.
