Tatiana Schlossberg, JFK’s Granddaughter, Faces Terminal Leukemia Diagnosis

Tatiana Schlossberg, the granddaughter of John F. Kennedy, revealed on Saturday that she is facing a terminal leukemia diagnosis, with less than a year to live.

“Maybe my brain is reconstructing my life right now because of this terminal diagnosis, and all these memories will fade,” she expressed in a poignant essay published in The New Yorker.

The 35-year-old Schlossberg, who is the daughter of Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg, has a rare form of acute myeloid leukemia.

She shared that doctors discovered the cancer just hours after she gave birth to her second child in 2024. “A few hours later, my doctor noticed something was off with my blood cell count. A normal level is around 4 to 11,000 per microliter; mine was a staggering 131,000,” she explained.

Accompanying the essay was a striking image of Schlossberg, showing her with shortened gray hair.

The medical community has been curious about any possible links between her illness and the September 11 terrorist attacks. “Every doctor I saw asked if I’d spent much time at Ground Zero, due to how prevalent blood cancers are among first responders. I was in New York during sixth grade on 9/11, but it wasn’t until later that I visited the site,” she noted.

Reflecting on her diagnosis, Schlossberg remarked, “I’m not old. I just turned 34.”

She described the initial shock of the diagnosis. “I couldn’t believe this was happening to me. I had just completed a mile swim the day before while nine months pregnant. I felt perfectly healthy; in fact, I always considered myself one of the healthiest people I knew.”

This article was published on November 22nd, marking the 62nd anniversary of her grandfather’s assassination in 1963.

Her brother, Jack Schlossberg, is currently campaigning for the 12th Congressional District seat that was recently vacated by Rep. Jerrold Nadler in Manhattan.

This is an evolving story.
