Hamas Signals Possible Ceasefire End
Hamas has cautioned U.S. special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, that the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip may come to an end. This warning follows recent violence where Israeli forces killed several terrorists attempting to breach security lines, as reported by Saudi state-run Al Arabiya on Saturday.
A Hamas official stated to Saudi media, “The agreement has ended. We are ready to fight.” The group emphasized that any ceasefire must be mutual and insisted that “Gaza will not become a second Lebanon.” An American source shared with Israeli news site Walla that Hamas “has made it clear that it cannot accept any more Israeli attacks.”
This escalation follows an incident on Saturday where armed terrorists crossed the Yellow Line and fired at Israeli soldiers in a humanitarian corridor in southern Gaza. The IDF responded by killing the attackers and initiated strikes on Hamas targets, aided by the Shin Bet.
The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office announced the elimination of five senior Hamas terrorists on Saturday, attributing this action to Hamas’s violation of the ceasefire. “Today, Hamas once again violated the ceasefire, sending terrorists into Israeli-occupied territory and attacking IDF soldiers,” the PMO declared. They asserted that while Israel had complied with the ceasefire, Hamas had not.
On Friday, the IDF reported that 17 terrorists had emerged from an underground tunnel. Following a 24-hour operation, the military killed 11, arrested six, and transferred them to the Shin Bet for further questioning.
In northern Gaza, two of four terrorists who approached Israeli troops after crossing the Yellow Line were killed. The PMO is urging mediators to pressure Hamas to complete the release of hostages, as three prisoners are still held in Gaza. Israel has also demanded that Hamas complete its disarmament to facilitate the demilitarization of the area.
Meanwhile, Hamas leader Khalil al-Khayya is reportedly leading a delegation to Cairo to coordinate efforts with Arab countries against Israel.
