"Wicked: For Good" charms the box office once again

It did “evil” good.

“Wicked: For Good” soared to the top spot this past Friday, raking in $68.68 million at the box office, as reported by The Numbers.

This sequel, following last year’s “Wicked,” offers an emotional, extended version of the second act of the beloved Broadway musical, according to the Post.

Ariana Grande, who stars as Glinda, shared her feelings about the project: “It’s been such an amazing experience to create with people that we not only love but also respect creatively,” she mentioned during the New York premiere screening at Lincoln Center.

The musical fantasy is projected to make around $151.5 million over the weekend, as per Deadline.

In the second position was “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t,” which launched on Friday. In its second week, this heist film earned $2.4 million, slipping one spot from last weekend.

This movie reportedly had a budget of around $90 million and is expected to gross approximately $9.45 million over the three-day weekend.

Holding steady in third place, “Predator: Badlands” brought in $1.7 million on its third Friday, with estimates suggesting a total of $6.2 million for the weekend.

Meanwhile, “Running Man” dropped two places from the previous week, ending up in the fourth spot with $1.665 million in box office revenue.

The comedy-drama “Rental Family,” featuring Brendan Fraser, premiered in fifth place on Friday with $1.2 million.

Set in Tokyo, the film has been described as “a heartwarming gem” that showcases Japan’s stunning cities and landscapes. Fraser referred to his character—a father working at a Rental Family agency—as “as brilliant as you’d expect.”

Director Hikari noted that Fraser was committed to the role, taking Japanese lessons three to four times a week. “He was like, ‘I’m in,’” she said.

In a behind-the-scenes clip, Fraser’s co-star Mari Yamamoto praised the Academy Award winner, expressing that he is “kind and generous to everyone.” She remarked, “Being with him is like really knowing that if you fall, someone will catch you.”

Hikari echoed her admiration, noting she always wanted the perfect actor for the role. “I’ve always been a big Brendan fan. Who isn’t?”
