Parents of toddler who fell to her death from an open cruise ship window have separated.

The parents of a toddler who tragically fell from an open cruise ship window have finalized their divorce. Alan and Kimberly Wiegand separated in September 2024, as noted in public records.

Their daughter, Chloe, just 18 months old, lost her life in July 2019 after being held up by her grandfather, Salvatore Anello, near an open window aboard the Royal Caribbean ship, Freedom of the Seas, which was docked in Puerto Rico at the time.

Chloe slipped from Anello’s arms and fell 11 stories, tragically hitting the concrete floor at San Juan’s Pan American Pier II.

Reports suggest that Kimberly, a lawyer, is now in a relationship with Dustin Wilson, an air conditioning repairman who has three children and a criminal history, including burglary and trespassing.

On the other hand, Alan Wiegand, who works as a police officer in South Bend, Indiana, received a “Lifesaving Award” in April for saving an unconscious 18-year-old man through CPR, alongside two other officers.

Neither Alan nor Kimberly, along with Anello and Wilson, responded to requests for comments.

Chloe was on vacation with her family—including her two siblings and two sets of grandparents—when the devastating incident occurred.

The Wiegand family pursued legal action against Royal Caribbean, claiming that Chloe’s death stemmed from poorly designed windows and inadequate warning signs.

While authorities maintained that Chloe slipped through Anello’s grasp, the family’s lawyer contested this, indicating that Anello had placed her on a railing under the impression that a glass barrier was present.

According to the lawyer, Chloe had asked her step-grandfather to lift her up so she could tap on the glass, similar to what she did at her brother’s hockey game. “Basically, my grandfather picked her up and put her on the railing and thought there was glass there because it was clear, but it turns out there was actually no glass there,” attorney Michael Winkleman explained previously.

The couple decided to drop their lawsuit in December 2023, as reported.
