Former Teacher Sentenced for Sexual Abuse of Student

A 30-year-old ex-substitute teacher has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after being convicted of paying a middle school student for sex and supplying various drugs and alcohol.

Carissa Jane Smith, who resided in Dixon, Missouri, faced arrest in November of the previous year. She was charged with 19 felonies, including statutory rape and child sex trafficking, as reported by local sources.

This September, Smith accepted a guilty plea on a lesser charge.

Authorities disclosed that Smith, who had worked in multiple schools within the Dixon R-1 School District, compensated students over $100 via cash or CashApp for sexual acts.

Additionally, she allegedly provided alcohol and marijuana to students in exchange for similar favors.

The allegations of abuse extended beyond isolated incidents. For example, in one case, a student was reportedly led to Smith’s home by a classmate, who suggested the student could earn money by working for her. The abuse occurred while the classmate waited outside.

Documents from the court reveal shocking claims, including one instance where a student alleged that Smith coerced him into sexual acts.

When the victim expressed regret, stating, “That was a mess,” Smith is said to have responded by offering more money.

Authorities indicated that Smith took significant measures to hide her actions, repeatedly advising the victim to remain silent about their encounters.

In a separate incident, when one of her victims allegedly recorded her performing oral sex, Smith purportedly destroyed the student’s phone to eliminate the evidence.

Reports shared that Smith told her husband one victim had threatened her with a video, prompting him to allegedly intimidate the boy with a baseball bat.

In another notable instance, Smith’s brother-in-law claimed to have found her in bed with an underage student after learning about a circulating video.

Authorities mentioned that Smith reportedly engaged in abusive acts in various locations, including her home, particularly during times when her husband was away. Other reported sites included her car and remote areas like gravel roads.

On September 17, as part of a plea deal, Smith pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges—specifically two counts of sexual contact with a student and one count of first-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

Attempts to reach Smith’s legal representative for further comments were unsuccessful.
