Oregon Ducks Fall to USC Trojans

On Saturday night, the Oregon Ducks faced the USC Trojans and ended up losing 42-27. Despite this setback, Oregon still boasts an impressive overall record of 10-1, as well as a 7-1 mark against teams in the Big Ten Conference.

Following this match, Oregon’s head coach, Dan Lanning, made a case for his team’s inclusion in the College Football Playoff. Currently, the Ducks are ranked 7th, moving up from last week’s 8th spot. Interestingly, Oregon was set to play against No. 10 Alabama next.

This loss means that three teams from the Big Ten will participate in the College Football Playoff.

“I think the proof is in the pudding,” Lanning expressed to the media. He emphasized that his team can win in a variety of ways, whether it involves pushing through tough environments or excelling regardless of the weather. “We can outdo you sometimes, right? Let’s just play football,” he said.

Lanning also highlighted the challenges of their competitive schedule, taking a jab at some schools in the SEC. Oregon’s season will conclude with a matchup against the Washington Huskies.

Ducks quarterback Dante Moore played a crucial role in the game, completing 22 of 30 passes for 257 yards. He threw two touchdowns but also had one interception. By halftime, Oregon held a lead of 28-14 over USC.

Moore reflected on the emotional intensity of the game, particularly since it was senior night. “I kept telling the team this was going to be an emotional game, but you can’t let emotions control you, because that’s where negativity creeps in,” he noted. He felt that their preparation during the week really paid off.

On the other side, USC’s head coach Lincoln Riley expressed disappointment over his team’s performance, acknowledging that their playoff aspirations might now be out of reach. “We didn’t play our best game. We had some penalties that we hadn’t seen before, and they really hurt us,” he said. Despite some courageous plays, they came up just short.
